Meet the Candidate Video
"𝗛𝗶, 𝗜'𝗺 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻. I'm running for W three city council for seat B. And I want to thank you for voting. I want you to thank all the candidates who are running that we are have a selection to choose from.
I would like to do a little bit of my background, my teaching experience. I taught for 10 years. I was a computer analyst for 20 25 years, and I'm in the process of enjoying my retirement. I spend Monday mornings at our county jail doing a spiritual discussion group. On tax season, finds me at the city library working for ARP tax aid doing people's returns, and for the past year I have been a city counselor, so I am enjoying my at the learning experience of having many many things to learn about our pre precious city.
And I have lived in Paraguay, a Melbourne, Australia. And I have worked in Colorado, New Mexico, Alaska, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. So I bring a wide range of living experiences to the job.
The life I'm living now is pretty normal I think for a person in the United States. I have enjoyed myself, and I have a beautiful garden which I'm taking care of from well spring through fall.
I have several things I would like to say about our schools. We need to keep our schools so they are turning out good students and serving all the population. And one of the things we need to do for that is to get the children in school so that they can continue the learning."
Notes:
The Public Information and Community Engagement Office for the City of Rochester is pleased to announce that the Meet the Candidates video series is now available for viewing ahead of the upcoming Municipal Election.
The nonpartisan series introduces voters to candidates for Mayor, City Council, School Board, and Police Commission. Each candidate was given up to three minutes to speak directly to voters, share their priorities, and present their personal message.
To ensure fairness and transparency, all videos were recorded live in a single take, without edits, hosts, or predetermined questions.
The views and opinions expressed in the following video are those of the candidate and do not necessarily reflect the views of the City of Rochester, its elected officials or staff. The content is presented as part of a public information effort to provide equal opportunity for all candidates to address the community.
Transcript was taken directly from the GovTV website closed captioning. AI added bold/italic fonts for emphasis and separated paragraphs where appropriate.
In this survey, the candidate answered the following questions:
"Why are you running?"
"Do you support the city’s tax cap and for what, if any, reasons would you support going over it?"
"How can Rochester ease the burden on residential property taxpayers?"
"How can the city further the affordability and availability of housing? Do you support efforts in the state legislature aimed at reducing local control of zoning rules and regulations?"
"What can Rochester do to attract new small businesses and support the small businesses already in the city?"
"Rochester purchased the old Care Pharmacy and nearby properties for more than $3.3 million. Do you agree with this purchase and what should Rochester do with the property it now owns?"
"Short-term and long-term, what should the mayor/council do about the growing homeless population in Rochester?"
"The Legislature has empowered cities to create “social districts” where outdoor drinking of alcoholic beverages is allowed. Do you support bringing social districts to Rochester?"
"What else would you like voters to know about you?"
About David Herman¹
As a husband, parent, homeowner, retiree, and volunteer, I am guided by respect for all people – even the ones that disagree with me. I hope to see an improved public school system, affordable health care for all, protection for the elderly and help for the needy. Also, I want a welcoming community supported by fair taxes that pay for what the citizens want.
I believe we should attempt to reduce recidivism and improve the lives of those in the correctional system. Since retiring, I have prepared taxes as a volunteer and was impressed with how thankful people are to have help with their taxes, given how complicated our changing federal tax system is.
I also lead a spiritual discussion group at the county jail. This has given me insight into the wide range of persons in our jail system, where I try to help them to know themselves and to take responsibility for their actions. Public service is my way to give back to the community for all that I have been given. I am grateful for liberty and voice. I ask for your support, and, if elected, I will serve and represent the people of Rochester.
