I created this guide because every election season we hear the same things from the people who did not vote:
"I didn't know who was running", "I didn't know what they stood for", "I didn't know which ward the different candidates were in or how to get in contact with them."
Each Municipal Election, the turnout numbers reflect that sentiment:2017: 13.4% Voter Turnout2019: 14.1% Voter Turnout2021: 24.5% Voter Turnout
While the 2021 Voter Turnout shows great improvement over previous Municipal Elections, there is still more work to be done.As a voter, I wanted to find a simple way for myself and other voters to get more information about those who are running for office. In past years, I have used the "Life in the Lilac City Facebook group", to try and organize information, but the problem with that is not everyone uses Facebook and Facebook does not allow for an easy way to organize information. So here we are this time around, creating a website for voters to get more information!
How This Guide Was Built:
For this guide, I did what I would normally do when trying to find out about a candidate - I turned to Google/Facebook to see what information was available for each candidate!
In some cases, candidates have sent me information/pictures of what they want included on their pages (more on that in a moment), in most instances, the guide was built using already available information about the candidates (News articles, posts/pictures from Social Media - Facebook, LinkedIn, Campaign websites, Campaign pages on Facebook, etc.).

"This is a great resource for the community! But you are doing this all for free? What are you expecting to get out of this?"
I view this as doing my "civic duty" for our community. The only things I ask are for you to:
1.) Spread the Word/Share this Page! I want everyone in the community to be able to benefit from this guide
2.) Go Out and Vote on November 7th, 2023! Let's get that Voter Turnout number to numbers we have not seen before! In the words of Susan B. Anthony, "Someone struggled for your right to vote. Use it."
